«I’m something special»: a graceful lady in court dress declaims this sentence in the late Baroque interior of Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. A chorus of male voices answers her from the castle stair: «We love you». A monotonous yet grotesque litany is created, that acquires a rather neurotic note in being so repetitious. Reduction to two camera settings, which strictly track the two axes of the Baroque interior, enhances the impression. The prologue is a sequence in which a child, also in court dress, leads the viewer into this absurd scenario. In the end banality breaks into the artificially generated tension as ironic relief.

Leona is a nightclub singer in Los Angeles. In the video she sits in her living room, sings short demonstrations of songs, and comments upon each of them. She alternates between performing and speaking about her life as both a private and a public person. She addresses the person behind the camera, the audience watching the video almost 'becomes' this person and it creates an intimate space between the viewer and the subject.

The reflections of a young woman on her balcony, shaking her laundry. The private thoughts of this woman are drowned in her own delirium, which is accentuated and framed by the film’s repetitive imagery. The camera slowly zooms out to reveal the urban décor in which the film was made. The anonymous facades of the surrounding apartment blocks push us to imagine that behind each one of these buildings hides a collection of unique lifestyles and thoughts. The artist brings this to light through a strange and almost sad sense of humor.

"All the sweet stings that come out of the hands all that eagerness to close eyelids to cast dark or dream of blowing a forgetfulness about the charged fronts to turn everything into a canvas without sound It transforms me into the pure breeze of the hour, in that blue face that does not think, in the smile of the stone, in the water that joins the arms mutely. In that last moment in which everything uniform pronounces the word: FINISH". Vicente Aleixandre. B.G.

Will we speak to each other making the grass bend as if a wind were before us, will our way be as graceful, as substantial as the movement of something moving so gently. We break things into pieces like walls we break ourselves into hearing them fall just to hear it. «The Answer», Robert Creeley. B.G.

Synopsis by director Pascale Thirode: “I am Corsican through my mother, who never shared her story or the island’s history. She seems to have forgotten her origins. A few years ago, I found a photo album with removed photos and scattered captions, which became clues for a journey with my daughters, aged 10 and 13. We arrived by ship, approached the island in mist, and docked in Bastia, my mother’s hometown. We sought her father, who died in Ajaccio in July 1944 under mysterious circumstances. Navigating mystery and doubt, we faced the unease of an unpassed story, symbolised by the Corsican expression ‘Acqua in bocca,’ meaning ‘water in the mouth,’ which silences speech.”

Experimental home movie documenting a visit by filmmakers Wayne and Eleanor Boyer and their nine-year-old son Brett to JoAnn Elam's home in Logan Square, Chicago, for a summer barbecue. Later in the film, Chuck Kleinhans and Julia Lesage, co-founders of the cinema journal Jump Cut join the group. Since Elam is on screen for much of the film, it was likely mostly filmed by Elam's husband Joe Hendrix, who also appears at the end of the film. During the visit, the friends relax on Elam's back porch and film her garden, both frequent locations in her work. A group of friends and colleagues that included Elam, Kleinhans, and Lesage adopted the name "The Rhinos" after walking to a screening at Kartemquin Films on a cold winter evening, and having a group of kids throw snowballs at them and tell them that they looked like a group of rhinos.
