Photographs taken by Karo Goldt during an air show were used in the production of mir mig men. These moments, frozen, in time, digitally manipulated and animated, resulting in a «photo film» create a broad film of associations for innumerable scenarios involving war and other catastrophes. It suggests looking through a frosty window at faded relics of destruction which is both frightening and absurd, one's perpective completely unrelated to time. The scene's stifling atmospheric density is the direct result of these experiments on the edge of visibility.

It was not raining, but the ground was wet because the water was dripping from the outdoor units of the air conditioners on the towering buildings. The neon lights of Tsim Sha Tsui glittered in the mysteriously shaped puddle. The film is a diary-like film that captures peaceful Hong Kong in 2019, just before the pro-democracy protests against the Fugitive Slave Ordinance intensified.

There’s a spider secretly settles in my room. Sometimes it appears with its cutesy bearing and somehow, I can feel its building nests in my brain, obscuring things that I can’t or am unwilling to remember, where all the insane and violent thoughts are lurking. This 8-feet little thing only shows its face in unexpected moments silently but is still moving in this enclosed room, even today.

Don’t Go Back to Sleep is a an experimental narrative film, a haunted tragi-comedy that functions as much as a symbolic meditation on citizen resilience as a metaphor for the violence of the state and the First World’s rapacious impact on the earth, driving the planet itself towards impending death. Shot in Kansas City, Missouri, in newly built homes left uninhabited and unfinished in the economic crash, Don’t Go Back to Sleep follows roving groups of frontline emergency workers adrift in nearly empty, end-times urban and suburban landscapes. Squatting empty suburban developments and luxury high-rises, depressed with the aura of so many displaced by the U.S. housing market catastrophe, nurses and doctors establish make-shift treatment centers within the architectural mundane: fixtures and countertops, carpet pads and exposed wiring, fireplaces and crown molding. As they perform haphazard triage, mostly on each other, we realize they may be the only survivors against a dangerous State.

Poster for Walter Kaufmann - Welch ein Leben!

2021 · ★ 0.0 (0)

Documentary film about the Jewish, German-Australian writer Walter Kaufmann, who died in Berlin in 2021 at the age of 97. The film follows in the footsteps of his travels, which he undertook all over the world, for example to the USA, Australia, Japan, Cuba, Israel and East Germany. Significant events, catastrophes and upheavals in the history of these and other countries continue to have an impact to this day and are reflected in the life of the cosmopolitan, who not only shared his experiences in successful novels and reportages, but also took the side of the persecuted, disenfranchised and excluded in his youth.

Poster for A Sense Of Place

2018 · ★ 0.0 (0)

A Sense Of Place is a short film made with scanned images of transparent Adhesive Sticky Tape. The traces, marks, and imprints left on the tape were scanned and animated into a noisy moving image, overlaying with slow-motion footage from a platform from a train station. A mundane moment of time stretched into a poetic space where passenger's figure and movements reveal below the traces of the insignificant sticky tape.

"Wearing a traditional Vietnamese dress or áo dài, my female protagonist boxes alone in front of a pitch black backdrop. She staggers her feet while swiftly punching forward, looking ahead with determination and a glint in her eyes. The piece took on a another meaning and urgency as it was created during a new wave of anti-Asian hate rippling across the United States in early 2020. The production for this video piece occurred right before and after the Atlanta shootings in March 2020, when a man targeted women of Asian descent killing eight people. The punches represent my frustration, anger, pain, and sadness towards the experiences of being immigrant, of being Asian and of being of Asian descent in the United States of American." (A.T.N.)

vers(ing) opens in a coffee shop. People, sit, enter and exit. A conversation is heard. The video continues, traveling through the streets of a city, to a park, to other coffee shops, other places. No particular destination is reached, but as we travel, fragments of text are read, conversations are heard, settings, people and objects are noticed. vers(ing) presents a moving toward that is transitory and offers a poetic contemplation of how life, meaning, and film are intertwined and constructed.
