Human bodies appear incomplete, divided and fractured by water and fabrics as a way to address the cementing, impoundment, and fragmenting of local streams and rivers. The body parts search for each other in an attempt to reconstitute as a collective body. Towards the end of the film a complete human body is revealed, suggesting that if we dismantle infrastructure that divides and splinter bodies of water, riparian ecosystems might stand a chance to become whole again. Filmed on location in the San Gabriel River and the Wanaawna (Santa Ana) river mouth, this inaugural and site specific activation of the Water Portraits series is the first step towards building a healing relationship with the land and the waters of the unceded Tongva and Acjachemen territories, known by many as Orange County. We are grateful to our human and natural indigenous hosts who have sustained us, despite being submitted to violent processes of colonization and extraction.

Between the 1960s and the late 1980s, the Algerian film industry flourished in an anti-colonial environment, giving rise to a nation of politically aware film lovers. Since then, however, the film industry and archives in Algeria have suffered due to the political and economic situation. This short video work consists of several sequences of found footage from various militant films made in Algeria from the 1960s onwards. The archive material was edited for this show to create a new narrative. Some sequences are reminiscent of politically engaged action in this country that was one of the African nations where liberation movements flourished most freely. Other parts of the footage show traces of time as a result of the deterioration in the film’s chemical composition and emulsion, resulting in abstract images with granular textures.

The piece explores the cultural crossovers, the geo-political area as a continual interweaving of cultural roots and historical routes. The seascape journey portrays an intricate space of encounters, currents and continual transit. A site of ancient civilisation as well as contemporary tourism and migration. The desert and the sea are sites of historical, cultural and contemporary 'movement' as well as a barrier and a divider between the South and North, the East and West.

To have conversation with Mr. Mouse, daily life has to be selected and excluded. To disclose dirty and nasty things in society that is full of germs through twisted amateurish imagination. To reveal humane symptoms like romantic evilness, contempt and fear as pessimistic weakness and thoughts on death. These aim at Mr. Mouse in the form of excluded body movements, deconstructed sentences, irony and witticism. As I attained a victory from them, I decided to be a guardian of toilet myself.
