"Film Portrait of Richard Serra was shot during the making of The Camera: Je but I felt that the footage showed such complicity between Richard and me that I decided it was a film on its own. I shot the film title in 1977 but only finished the film in 2007 in digital video. Richard and I had met in Rome in 1972, and in January 1974 I moved into the building where he had lived and worked since the 1960s, so we were neighbors. We liked each other and the film shows that."

A single part of a three channel work, called Here, Her, Heart, Hovers depicts a young girl engaged in shadow play. A plain white sheet is all that stands between her and her grandmother, to whom she describes an ever-evolving world and everything what has come to pass in a lifetime. In witnessing from a place of childlike wonder, what starts in innocence quickly escalates to something more shrewd and disorienting.

The film opens directly and freshly with a screen journey which is also a kinetic light sculpture holding its rotation steadily before our eyes. Many associations emerge as we hear the tale in relation to this image and its shifting background. . . including a bicycle being ridden by the filmmaker, spools and spokes, a feeling of a metal insect or iridescent whirring dragonfly picking up the passing colours. There is a still centre to the radial motion against linear road or landscape. A feeling of cyclical storytelling comes with the account of her own life and giving birth to a ‘computer literate and perfectly bilingual’ baby daughter. We are led to respond to her not being guaranteed to stay in control. Again multiple strands are knotted in this fortune wheel: gain on the swings, lose on roundabouts, with no ‘perfection’ in relations with other beings on the round of merry, or social, or just plain recurring intercourse. -Sandra Lahire

The film chronicles the work of choreographer and dancers on the stage in Minneapolis preceding the premiere of Trisha Brown’s Lateral Pass in 1985. Involving a complex set and colorful costumes by Nancy Graves, choreography by Trisha Brown, and improvised music by Peter Zummo, the film follows the dynamic between dancers, choreographer and the stage apparatus.

Carrie Mae Weems draws on narrative formats such as self-portraiture, social documentary and oral history to scrutinize notions of subjectivity in terms of gender, race and class. Her video installation Lincoln, Lonnie, and me is a meditation on the exclusionary mechanisms of the American dream. In one sequence, Weems intones a portion of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address while spectres of Lincoln, a crying woman and a reenactment of the John F. Kennedy assassination flit across the screen. In another, segments of speeches by her fellow artist and activist Lonnie Graham alternate with images of race riots and bus boycotts. Between these scenes, Weems intersperses ghostlike appearances of athletes, performers and tricksters, thus commenting on how white culture has traditionally reduced Black identity to certain societally sanctioned roles and provoking viewers to confront their own complicity in the perpetuation of systemic racism. The portrait of an artist in action. The process of creation, as it happens, is emulated and experienced in the choice of shots and in the arrangement of the editing. The film is born from an unexpected meeting of sensitivity in the making, in constant search of the true entity of art. It is the second of a series dedicated to various artists’ work . The portrait is “temporal”, also referring to how the human condition can be represented.

Consists of fractal structures with some kind of natural look and movements. These fractal systems were created for 3 screens, in order to morph, continue and interact on the neighbour screen - with a relative system from another view/camera, like a more macroscopic or microscopic view of a varied system, with a system of different material or quality, like water, or some stylized patterns within the system. The images were made to interact and communicate with each other as well as with the people and the surrounding. Therefore it is silent, it is meant to screen with the sounds and atmosphere of the screening place.
