Stuck in bed all day, watching traffic shadows flash and fade across the bedroom wall alongside other fleeting memories, which only find their expression in concert footage from 1978, warped in frantic searching for the face of my nan who was in attendance. Why so desperate to memorialise images? Why so stuck on the bedroom wall? A remix of an unreleased film.

A film by Peri Muldofsky made while she was part of the Young Filmaker's Foundation. On her own words about the film "I had unfortunately fallen in love and had my heart broken, and somehow I thought I could make a film about that internal state, which, at eighteen years old, you can't! I had no idea what I was doing. I had a would-be actress, and she changed her hair in the middle of the shoot and didn't understand why that mattered. I didn't know how to direct actors. I never really understood coverage so everything I filmed was a long shot. I didn't even know you were supposed to move the camera. And then when I started to edit [the film], it was impossible. It was really upsetting."

Poster for Shadows in Mulan 目澜秘事

2019 · ★ 0.0 (0)

The animation is about a letter from a south city. The inspiration comes from senior from my hometown, who talks about the description and fantasy about the last decade. Combined with the odd stories, the movie depicts the status of a coming night. Before everything occurs, there are only hints, metaphors, and the urge in the dark night. At that time, people in my hometown could not tell some of the truth, and they lived with tense relationships between them. Then some incidents evolved into bizarre legends. Now, the light in the city has driven away the darkness in the countryside, while those legends still exist there.

Poster for Sinkholes

2025 · ★ 0.0 (0)

Merging fiction and documentary, Sinkholes is a dystopian vision of a future world in which humanity survives in an environment in which water has become scarce and the sea is slowly receding behind dunes of salt. It tells the story of the inhabitants of a desolate coastline, trapped between a desertified interior and an unnamed coast. Following, the first-person voiceover of its protagonist Lawrence, the story unfolds through a sequence of striking documentary scenes, shot in inland and coastal Israel and Palestine. While the landscapes and sites Russo has gathered are real – places of rusting industry, of abandoned habitation and the bizarre, almost extraterrestrial salt formations of the Dead Sea – the narration transforms these into the ruins of an entire society, doomed to a world in which it has ceased to rain.

Poster for We Are Women

1978 · ★ 0.0 (0)

A poetic video piece in which Weiss alternates between hand-held shots of women that are surviving in the streets of Mexico City and colourful, kaleidoscopic forms. In a very personal style she combines sound, color, abstractions, reportage, rhythm. A unique melange of realism, absurdism and fantastical, a sort of eerie fairytale that holds a profound social commentary. – Mila van der Weide
