In the 16 mm film to you (1994) a 12-year old girl searches and stretches on a white circular slab of Thassos marble in a field by a coastline. The girl’s focus is turned inwards and on her own movements. The slab was installed by Dolven in Sandnes, near Stavanger, in 1994. In 2018, the artist returned to Sandnes, where she found her sculpture covered in moss, almost unrecognisable. The pigment print of the stone is in the scale of 1:1 presented next to a video monitor with the film of the girl from 1994. The passing of time is perceivable through nature: the changes to the stone from 1994 to 2018 marks a temporal arc of 24 years.

liberty is an installation with a silent 16mm film running in a loop. This film is displayed on a monitor which the viewer sees through a pair of peek holes drilled trough a wooden door or a wall. Approaching the holes, most viewers will need to bow down to look through them. On the other side one glimpses a moving image of an Antarctic iceberg whose shape resembles the Statue of Liberty. The iceberg floats majestically on its own with nothing else on the horizon. Bright sun illuminates both the sea and the surface of this immense mass of artic ice, creating a dazzling vista almost entirely in shades of white and blue. As the piece is filmed from the deck of a boat, the camera movement follows the rhythmic rocking of the waves giving the viewer a curious sense of being present where the film was shot.

People - well dressed – of all ages – are resting on the ground in a long line. We see about twenty. They rest partly on each other. They look comfortable and relaxed. Their clothes feel contemporary – a mix of urban cool winter clothing and some traditional clothing; like a Sami hat and Norwegian woolen jumpers. A bicycle jacket and good footwear is also part of the clothing. The line of people is about 16 metres long. They are all lying in one direction – heads towards the left and feet pointing to the right. One person only, is looking at us – a teenage girl.

between the morning and the handbag was filmed at the first light of day when the sun leaves no shadows. A roll of 35mm film captures these four minutes in which the warm light changes into white. A naked figure, appears limbless, as it sits on the edge of a large boulder facing the sea. This body is sculptural in its motionless, its humanity betrayed only by its breathing. The gradual changing of light, the slow movement of the water, and the handbag that marks the highly contemporary moment, all subvert the apparent timelessness and otherworldliness of the image. This project was made in 2002 in the south of Norway.

When the sun is shining in the arctic in the summer – it’s strong. Very strong. There I am closer to the sun. Don’t look into the sun! Its danger. Danger. Danger. The binoculars, always on the windowsill, make the sun even larger and stronger and more dangerous. I know very well I can't look at the sun through those. Danger. My eyes could be damaged, in a second. Still, I always wanted to. The binocular are still there on the windowsill. Don’t do it, don’t do it. I did not do it. I did not. Never. I wanted to, but did not, did not do it. Again and again. For several days , when the sky was clear that summer. Through the 8 mm lens. That summer, 2010, I did it. Shot several 8 mm films, three minutes each. It was painful. But I did it. I looked at the sun; it was due to the lens now a small ball, after a while I had to shift to the other eye and back again, but I DID DO IT.

change my way of seeing I was shot with a super 8 camera held by the artist at arms length and turned around 180 degrees. The artist is looking at the sun trough the lens. Hence it is the sun "looking" through the viewfinder at the artist's eye. This performance lasts three minutes, the length of one roll of super 8 film.

The work is a three-part installation consisting of a large-scale HD video projection and a separate video on a monitor placed elsewhere in the room. The video is accompanied by an intermittent soundtrack. The installation is displayed in an open space, and there are a number of thick rescue blankets on the floor for the audience to sit or lie on. The projection is shown on a large-scale free-standing, vertical tilted screen made of aluminium, filling the available space almost floor-to-ceiling.

what can I do for you is a 16 mm film projected onto the interior wall of a purpose built space. The exterior surface of this space is smooth and painted light blue. Inside, its structure is laid bare. This carefully constructed seclusion is preparation for witnessing a moment of intimacy between two people. The projection itself – black and white and small in scale, exposes a naked male body that deflates and expands with the rhythm of each breath. In the film, the lens draws close over the folds of skin, hovering over pores, follicles and hair. The shifting position of the camera transforms fragmented textured surfaces into expanses of light and shadow in which shapes emerge and disappear. The camera’s broken movements propel a woman’s hand into action. The hand strokes the skin with a cloth, perhaps to stimulate or maybe to cleanse. The ambiguity of this action, at once sexual and caring, is echoed in the film’s title. There is no sound aside from that of the projector.

moving mountain was filmed on an island solely inhabited by seabirds in Røst, Norway, 68.2º north. The soundtrack, loud and distressing, is that of a cacophony of screaming birds. The camera is fixed on two women that stand facing a foreboding landscape. Their heads, one blonde one brunette, fill the lower bottom corners of the image. Like book ends they frame the mountainous cliff that towers above them. As the fog gradually lifts more and more birds are revealed flying in and out of the cleft of the rock face.
