Video installation that shows the historical disagreement between the indigenous world -the Mapuche ethnicity- and the Chilean hegemony. Differences that seem unavoidable. A cultural and political war that has lasted for more than five centuries.

Poster for Deep Touch

2020 · ★ 0.0 (0)

"Deep Touch" is a performative video using a Soft Computing sculpture. The piece is inspired by the oft-cited Matt Mahurin image made for a 1995 Time Magazine cover story on cyberporn, in which a man hugs a glowing computer. This simple gesture--embracing the device one spends so much time with--is cast in a sinister light, a deviation from normal desire. Twenty-five years hence, in a time when we touch and caress our devices all day long, heightened even further by quarantine, the desire to embrace our technologies seems normal and obvious.

Poster for Quarantine Youtube Archive

2020 · ★ 0.0 (0)

A compilation of 75 YouTube videos that have been uploaded to the website within the last 6 months and are related to Covid in some way, specifically in the title. It flickers between quarantine vlogs, “what I eat in a day in quarantine” videos, “quarantine glow-up” videos and story-time videos from people who have had Covid themselves. Soto has been collecting these videos since the beginning of quarantine as she thought it would be important to document what was going on over on YouTube, a platform that has so much cultural relevance but is not often paid attention to from an archival standpoint as these daily diaries and videos are often seen as frivolous. This archive may just look like familiar imagery to most right now but is important to keep as a time capsule for the future.

Tsyrlina’s radical found footage film subjects frames and sequences taken from Soviet propaganda about women’s equality to a cinematic archaeology, unearthing a sensuous and discreetly subversive movement within the material’s interstices and ellipses.

2020 · ★ 6.0 (1)

In the past, when white people didn’t exist, we used to hunt with our yãmĩyxop spirits. The whites came, cut down the trees, dried up the rivers and scared the animals away. Today, our tall trees are over, the whites surrounded us and our lands are tiny. But our yãmĩyxop are very strong and taught us the stories and chants from our ancients who walked around here.

Poster for A People in the Shadows

2008 · ★ 0.0 (0)

Almost thirty years after the revolution, and twenty since the end of the long Iran-Iraq war, A People in the Shadows takes us on a voyage into the heart of Tehran, a megalopolis of 14 million people. The city is still recovering from its past, as talk of sanctions and a possible American attack resonate. Using direct cinema methods, the film takes an intimate look at the way people live in this immense city today, caught up in the paradoxes and contradictions of their society, surrounded by images of past and future death, yet finding ways to juggle state propaganda and foreign threat on a daily basis.
