"Waking in Real Time" is a meditation on America's betrayal of women during the hearing on sexual assault allegations made against Brett Kavanaugh by Dr. Christine Blase Ford. A single contemplative shot of a soft October morning's first light over the Salish Sea is juxtaposed with an unflinching audio mix that is chilling, historically riveted, and peppered with statistics about sexual assault, screaming seagulls and women's fury. Laced with audio vestiges from the hearing on sexual assault allegations made against Brett Kavanaugh in fall 2018, Waking in Real Time is an effort to alchemize my own rage productively, by making art.

Marie-Laure and Carla have been in love for 25 years. Their three daughters were conceived by insemination. The law protects Marie-Laure's relationship with the girls because she is their biological mother. However, in order to be recognized as the second parent of the girls, Carla had to initiate a simple adoption procedure for Giulietta, Luana and Zelina. The film visits the file of testimonies that was sent to the Judge. The witnesses (mostly heterosexual and having children) question themselves on parenthood, biological or not, on the consequences of the absence of a father, on the difference of the sexes, on the evolution of the family... Their crossed words build Carla's place. Why not a family with two moms?

From an ancient burial site at Honokahua, Maui, to the streets of Honolulu, the issue of protecting ancestral remains from development is brought passionately to the public’s attention by Hawaiian descendants. A few days before Christmas, 1988, a 24-hour vigil is held at the state capitol to protest the excavation of almost 900 ancient burials from the sands of Maui’s Honokahua bay by archeologists contracted to clear the area for construction of a new Ritz Carlton resort. The effort to stop the desecration is met with overwhelming support from the community and soon an agreement is reached between the state government and the developer to move the hotel site and reinter the bones. This collective action eventually resulted in legislation to repatriate ancestral remains from universities and museums throughout the world and protect burial sites throughout Hawai‘i.

"Ghosts of Lost Futures" is a program of video works by 10 artists commissioned by the G. William Jones Film and Video Collection. Each artist was given access to the same cache of footage from the WFAA Newsfilm Collection shot in Dallas, Texas in the year 1970. The program was intended to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the archive, but due to the COVID-19 lockdowns, the program was not completed until the Spring of 2021. The artists were given complete freedom in how they re-interpreted the footage and its historical context. The resulting works are profound meditations on mourning, melancholy, disaster, and various reinterpretations of the events of 2020 and 2021 through images of Dallas' past. "The Void Remembers" is Marwa Benhalim's sumbission.

The Return of Gods and Ancestors is the first locally made ethnographic film in Taiwan. The film, captured with a hand-cranked Bell & Howell 16 mm camera, documents the most magnificent five-year ceremony in Paiwan tribe. During the festival, the Paiwan people expect to receive blessings of the gods and ancestors by piercing rattan balls with extended bamboo poles; however, they also try to prevent any harm caused by evil spirits. The Paiwan five year ceremony is not only the reunion of the dead and the living, but a meeting of the old and the new.

Ad meliora, or "towards better things" combines hundreds of separate images that create a deep meditation on being, creativity and nature; a mandala of forms that becomes highly symbolic of life, death, yesterday, now, and the next moment. Flowers, plants and textures were photographed in places such as nature conservatories, cultivated gardens, vacant properties and parking lots. The familiar landscape appears molten, luminous and renewed. Ad meliora is suggestive of adaptation, resilience and transformation.

While visiting Berlin, Baldino turned on her hotel room's television to find Venice Beach, California. She recorded the television image — a long, steady shot of the beach, surf, and bathers. Later, in California, she played back the unexplained and anonymous footage directly in front of the spot it depicted. She then videotaped the scene: the original broadcast, in ghostly miniature on a hand-held TV, and, in the background, its real-world double.

The film tells the story of the Hansa Theater in Hamburg, Germany's oldest variety theater, interweaving it with observations from the last season in 2001. It documents the work behind the scenes, the effort that had to be made month after month to bring a new program to the stage. The film lovingly observes the arrival of the artists in their trailers in the courtyard, their daily training, and the preparations made by the kitchen, service, and technical staff, and shows the performances as the culmination of this work. Above all, however, the images convey the joy that the work brings to everyone involved. Memories of Telse Meyer-Grell are visually complemented by archive footage and old photos.
