Veteran experimental filmmaker Mary Filippo tackles issues of work, class and gender roles in this visually captivating and provocative autobiographical piece. At the core of this engaging autobiographical film is an interview with Filippo’s mother, as she recounts incidents of exploitation and gender discrimination she experienced working in jewelry factories in the 1940’s and 50’s. The filmmaker contrasts her mother’s quiet acquiescence with her own attitudes about the social injustices of her culture through a striking montage of images and audio clips - moving the viewer to consider connections between consumerism and global labor practices, motherhood, money and happiness. While her mother's attitude toward the social injustices she endured is one of resignation, Filippo’s is one of assumed but uncollected responsibility.

Our imagination is equally confounded, said the 18th-century Swiss naturalist Charles Bonnet, by the infinitely great and by the infinitely small. Confounding, too, can be the instruments and empirical mechanisms we have to gauge immensity, particularly in their seemingly insurmountable limitations. A look at the universe, from chaos theory to canker worms, with explanations from three astrophysicists, including Dr. Kate Sholberg.

Try as we might, we cannot autopsy (from Greek, to see for oneself) the whole natural world. As diversity of life reduces, we further lose the ability to be amphibious (from Greek, to lead dual lives), to be above a surface and below, not to mention "achieving focus" in a single plane. Texts include A Treatise on Optics (1845) by David Brewster; Atlas of Nerve Cells (1896) by Moses Allen Starr; and The Microscope (1899) by Simon Henry Gage.

A mythological tale, retold and recast, unfurls on the periphery of a common. The entangled intrigues of the seen and the unseen conspire to disclose an underland at once enticing and threatening. But what are the consequences of such trespassing between worlds? The title of this allegorical story refers to the ecological process that occurs when organisms enter a dormant phase in response to adverse conditions. The film was made during the months and years of the pandemic. There were two aspects of this time that I was particularly struck by: firstly, that the virus occurred because of an extraordinary contact between the animal and human worlds, and secondly, that this contact resulted in a global "dormancy". Such events seemed terrifying and inexplicable - and yet our folklore, myths and fairy tales are replete with such events and occurrences. In turn these stories drew from observation of natural processes.

Cage Match Dress Rehearsals is comprised of numerous studies of a single instant in time, a sports photo of an MMA cage match. These collected studies are divided into four sections: "bodies and patterns set to motion," "rippling bodies all mixed up," "pattern expression of the space itself," and "liquid darkness". The studies were all generated by my own code applied to the sports photo in real time. During recording, code-assigned keys on the computer keyboard were set up to trigger visual changes in an intuitive and improvised way: formal effects, layerings, collapsings, swarmings and ripplings of fractal spaces. A soundtrack was added later.
