Poster for The Ghosts of Alexandria

1986 · ★ 0.0 (0)

A singular and poetic evocation of what Alexandria was, a multifaceted city, when it was at the heart of the Arab and European worlds. The men of letters Cavafy and Lawrence Durell are evoked by a few quotes describing the city, scattered throughout the film. The mixture of cultures and languages is the very essence of Alexandria, its inhabitants testify to the memory of a lush and harmonious cosmopolitan city, under the eye of the director's camera...

Poster for Dans un rectangle absolu, le printemps

2021 · ★ 0.0 (0)

In Quebec, as everywhere around the world, the Spring of 2020 was drastically changed by the Covid 19 pandemic. I decided to make the most of this extraordinary period by putting the disruption caused to the season of rebirth into images in a short animated film. Using my scanner to animate an assortment of flowers gathered from my neighbourhood and objects from my daily life allowed me to cast a distanced and light-hearted eye at this anxiety inducing global situation. The black, rectangular surface of the scanner is the sole backdrop of the film, like a representation of our confinement within four walls.”

Reorganized fragments of television commercials create an illusion that is different from the original clips. The images are still enchanting and appealing, but lack a direct connection to the product. The context and interpretation become more vague and open.
