In this narrative, scenes from film classics by Antonioni, Truffaut and others have a common theme of phone calls, yet the telephone assumes another role, that of an intimate camera that records scenes from the present, communicating with the images from the history of cinematography, calling them by phone.

Blending extensive family archives with striking and surreal location work, the film retraces the life of Fatimazahra, a young woman born with a rare genetic disorder that made exposure to sunlight deadly. She lived a parallel, nocturnal existence and founded a community known as the Children of the Moon. Following her death in 2023, the group traveled to Norway’s Lofoten Islands to live beneath the polar night, seeking a world where darkness offers safety.

Inside a fragmented miniature space of a diorama, this space appears as a compact and idyllic whole with a breath of warmth and coziness of a sunshine-flooded home. However, in reality, this is a cluster of small, broken, dissected walls and facades alike those that the artist uses in her animated puppet films. Besides highlighting the indexicality of the filmic space, this work reflects on the idea that home (for this author) is not a fixed place and a stronghold, but an illusionistic hideaway, where the fragmented space of the miniature holds such attributes as a fragile feeling of security.

An organic documentary. Girls experience and women remember being twelve years old, jammed together in a menstrual hearse (a white Talbot lined with red velvet). The body remembers what the mind forgets, going forwards towards the past. Each woman’s memory is reflected in her representation: Stella as an angry, haggard Tinkerbell; Emma made up as Marilyn, headbanging in the forest of dreams. My mother asks for a bag over her head.
