Financial pyramids have been a consistent feature in Georgia’s recent history. State banks, private lenders and construction companies have all taken money from people with the promise of future profit. But in most cases, the money has simply disappeared. The film shows the latest cycle of financial naivety–as well as society’s desperate attempts to earn money fast, even if very strange methods were needed. The film was shot in Javakheti, a southern region of Georgia on the border with Armenia and Turkey that is mostly populated by ethnic Armenians.

Fantastical, larger-than-life puppetry and rambunctiously playful choreography is framed against an Edenic backdrop of Vermont farm country in George Griffin and DeeDee Halleck’s luminous, lyrical short film, which documents the 1974 edition of the Bread and Puppet Theater’s annual Domestic Resurrection Circus, taking place soon after the company’s relocation from downtown Manhattan to the rural New England enclave where it remains headquartered to this day.

Chico Science, Nação Zumbi, and their manguebeat. This is the theme of the documentary. The film explores the story of an artist, a band, and a musical genre that emerged in the early '90s, blending the roots of Brazilian culture with contemporary and international influences. As a result, the art, cinema, and especially the sound known as "manguebeat" stood out in the country's music scene as something entirely unique, original, and inspiring.

The Fillmore was once a thriving, vibrant, and multicultural community with one of the most prominent jazz scenes on the West Coast and hundreds of black-owned businesses. The neighborhood’s prosperity quickly came to an end as urban redevelopment tore through neighborhoods, pushing thousands of families and businesses out of the area. Despite this, hundreds of community activists today worked tirelessly to help reclaim the “Harlem of the West.”
