The folks who populate the rundown hotel in this story have all come there from someplace which offered a modicum of hope. Gloria, who runs the place, earns most of her money as a stripper. She lives there with her two daughters and a son with an untreated brain tumor. Charlie, who is forever in and out of jail, is Gloria's sometime lover. A recent check-in is there hoping she can work up the courage to commit suicide, since her rich doctor husband ran off and left her. Another resident is Tim, who keeps company with his dog and his booze in equal measure. A schoolteacher comes by from time to time, hoping to do these people some good, but in choosing this lot to work with, she proves to be just as much of a loser as the rest of them.

Colour Poetry explores the journey of two lovers—Red, chaotic and anxious, and Blue, calm and structured—their characters being constructed through the lens of their emotional and mental states. As they navigate the complexities of a long-distance relationship, their interactions subtly transform their identities. While Red finds solace and stability in love, Blue begins to feel suffocated and reluctant to change. Their inevitable reunion forces them to confront an uncomfortable truth: growth isn’t always shared, and love doesn’t always mean staying together. As they move toward a seemingly unbreakable bond of their union, they must confront the reality that not all transformations are mutual.

Poster for Positive Transparencies

2024 · ★ 0.0 (0)

Inspired by Nan Goldin's 'Trees by the River, Munich' (1994), 'Positive Transparencies' comprises the tensions emerging from the destruction and reconstruction of 17 individual 35mm slides. This cinematic endeavor seeks to explore the methodologies employed in observing, scrutinizing, and transmuting the natural world through technological means. The pristine landscape of Hornby Island in British Columbia serves as the project's primary reference point, as it employs extensive analog deconstruction techniques to repurpose the island's scenic vistas. Live dye destructions captured on film are meticulously edited and layered to metamorphose into dynamic motion sequences and novel color palettes, thereby emulating a process of artistic disintegration.
