Between 1963 and 1967, Garland was down on her luck financially, and planned to write a biography. To aide in the process, she made these dictation recordings with a tape recorder provided by Irving “Swifty” Lazar. These tapes are a part of the Judy Garland archive at Columbia University. It wasn’t until Gerald Clarke made use of these recordings for book research in 2000 that they were released.

Poster for Stand By for Failure: A Documentary About Negativland

2022 · ★ 9.0 (2)

Since 1959 at the age of five, David "The Weatherman" Wills has been recording his life, self, and anything he likes (such as the weather, toilets flushing, and intercepted cell phone conversations) and broadcasting it to anyone listening. Together with childhood friends Richard Lyons and Mark Hosler they formed Negativland, which quickly became an absurd and noisy multimedia world without boundaries, ownership or privacy. Negativland's complex chaos of plunderphonics poses both serious and silly questions about the nature of culture, media, technology, control, propaganda, power and perception in the United States of America. Is what you're hearing and seeing real or simply familiar? The medium reveals that any message is all in our heads.

Poster for BAKUNAWA: Opera of the Seven Moons

2021 · ★ 0.0 (0)

Bakunawa rose from the ocean, so mesmerized by the light of the seven moons that she devoured them all. Dismayed, the people emerged, making noise and begging Bakunawa to give them back the moonlight. Bakunawa agreed and returned the seventh moon back into the sky, thus creating the first lunar eclipse. Part sonic ritual, part diasporic storytelling, "BAKUNAWA: Opera of the Seven Moons" is an experimental opera-film based on Micaela Tobin's critically-acclaimed album of the same name that reclaims the pre-colonial mythology of the Philippines back from centuries of violent, colonial erasure.

Poster for Frammenti di una Festa Furiosa

2021 · ★ 10.0 (1)

Furio’s Furious Fragments & Friends - Furio Jesi (1941 Turin -1980 Genoa), enfant prodige moving between a plethora of disciplines – egyptology, history of religions, German philology, literary criticism - passed away prematurely, not without leaving bright fragments which throw light on mechanisms beneath many socio-cultural practices, for instance regarding cultural belonging, the functions of myth in modern society. He saw kind of “mythological machines” at work underneath our cultural production of meanings, historically determined, departing from a void, something that is still in culture but as residue, a missing link to an alleged authentic experience nowadays compromised up to the point to became just rhetoric, a byword, which is in no way neutral, but a tool, a macchina, for maintaining the status quo and serving the power apparatus. As in the case of holidays, celebrations and festivals.
