Ivan Perepasov has been serving at the railway station as a pointsman for twenty-two years. It seemed to him that all he could do was run along the arrows, give signals, light lanterns. The shift was coming to an end, Ivan hurried home, where his wife and eight children were waiting for him. Suddenly it seemed to him that he had forgotten, after the passage of a freight train, to throw the switch lever onto the main track, along which the postal train was now rushing. Ivan, in despair, rushes onto the adjacent track and falls under a maneuvering locomotive...

On February 1, 2019, after three weeks of trial before the french criminal trial court, two police officers of the French Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI), Antoine Q and Nicolas R, were sentenced to seven years in prison for the rape of Émily S in the premises of the police station 36 Quai des Orfèvres. Neither her dress nor her blood alcohol level, or even her supposedly «sexual» attitude mentioned by the defense managed to minimize the seriousness of the facts: she did not consent to sexual intercourse. This conviction comes in a particular context of collective awareness on sexual violence. It is symptomatic of a change of mentalities. A symbolic, but equally universal story in the post #MeToo era.

Yael Bartana's dialogue-free and graceful 'The Undertaker' is a performative ceremony. A group of people dressed in white robes perform a choreographed ritual, led by an androgynous figure dressed in black, who leads them through an American metropolis and on to a cemetery where they bury their weapons in a pacifist gesture, but do so with power, pride and a will to resist. As they part with their machines, the members of the enigmatic group create a monument to life and the living, at the same time as they establish a connection to the phantoms of the past.
